I was asked by our board members for a mission statement to put on our web site, or corporate letter head, so everyone can see what our company believes in. Creating one was harder than I thought. I had to sit back and think, "Why are we out here?" I looked at large and small company web sites and found that most tell you what you want to hear; that their companies are good. Don’t we expect it to be that way?
I then began to look at our company and wondered why we were different than most and the answer came from the summer of 1950.
Mission Statement
I remember sitting down in a restaurant to have lunch when another boy about my age came in. As I watched him eat I could see how he really enjoyed the food he had chosen. Every mouth full was a delight and you could see it in his eyes. I also noticed that when he was done he wanted more, but I don’t believe he had any money left to buy it. At that time, I wanted to help him, but I didn’t have any money either. On my tray, I still had half my lunch and I was going to offer it to him. Then I noticed something I did not see at first. He was a young boy that was overweight. He was a fat child. He weighed at least twice my weight, and it brought tears to my eyes. He was so hungry. I wanted to give him everything that he wanted to eat. I sat there pretending not to stare trying to figure this out, but I could not. At 13, I didn’t even know how. At 63, I now know the weight would have killed him later in life. I have watched people for the last fifty years, and the caring is still there. I am now doing something about it.
From January of 2005 until now Truck Stop Events has done more surveys on the health of truck drivers than I want to mention and we find the same problem still comes up. We are a very unhealthy nation and the same question that I had fifty years ago is still applicable. How can I help them?
Walk a Mile America is owned by Truck Stop Events International, Inc. a Christian based company out of Hinton, Oklahoma. Our mission is to get the men, women and children of the United States back to a healthy lifestyle.
We are a Non-Profit company and appreciate all outside funding. But; I as the founder believe this:

If I have financial or material expectations about a certain company or person, those companies or people can let me down. They can disappoint me when they may fall short of my expectation of contribution. But; if I have no preset expectations about the person or company, anything given to our company, materially or financially, is a blessing and not something they owed us.
